The Story of NISOS KINEO

NISOS KINEO is a non-profit organization operating in Rhodes and the Dodecanese, with the mission of providing systematic humanitarian support and care to children, adolescents, and families in need.

Since its founding, the organization has operated with professionalism, consistency, and transparency, placing the empowerment of girls and young women at the core of its work.

From a Personal Journey to a Collective Mission

NISOS KINEO was formally established as a legal entity in 2024, marking the transition from individual initiative to an organized body of social action.

Growing up in Rhodes, in close proximity to the Dodecanese Child Protection Facility (formerly the Rhodes Girls’ Orphanage), the founder developed a meaningful relationship with the institution and the children it supports.

Inspired by her mother’s values and long-standing philanthropic involvement, this connection evolved into consistent, hands-on support grounded in care, responsibility, and long-term commitment.

From Intention to Action

In 2021, the founder and her husband began actively supporting the institution through collaborations with Greek non-profit organizations. Through this experience, the real and ongoing needs of the children and adolescents became clear, along with the necessity for an autonomous organization with a stable presence and a structured operational framework.

The establishment of NISOS KINEO emerged naturally from this journey. A key role in the organization’s institutional and legal formation was played by Stavros Chatzipavlis, an active member of the local community whose contribution was instrumental in creating the organization.

The Meaning Behind the Name

The name NISOS KINEO (Island Movement) draws its inspiration from the devastating wildfires in Rhodes in 2023. During the crisis, approximately 19,000 people were evacuated and protected within just a few hours through the spontaneous and collective mobilization of local citizens.

This experience highlighted, in the clearest way, the power of collective action. NISOS KINEO embodies this very philosophy: transforming social awareness into action and individual intention into shared responsibility.

The People Behind the Mission

Today, the daily operations and strategic planning of the organization are strongly supported by Evi Minatsi and Maria Rizopoulou.

Through their consistent presence and direct engagement with the girls supported by the organization, they coordinate programs, actions, and immediate support, building relationships founded on trust, stability, and care.

NISOS KINEO continues to evolve with a clear focus on social contribution, striving to leave a meaningful and lasting impact on the local community.

Guided by the principles of protection, empowerment, and the promise of a better future for children and young women, the organization remains committed to building a society that moves forward together toward positive change.
